New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) Angered by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s ‘dishonest’ remark directed at the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and its senior Delhi officials, the Congress party took action on Saturday by filing a complaint with the Election Commission (EC).

A team of Congress leaders, along with a group of lawyers, formally expressed their grievance to the electoral body and urged immediate action to compel the ruling AAP to remove the ‘derogatory’ post.

Congress criticized the posters shared by AAP on its social media early that morning, labeling them as a blatant attempt to tarnish the reputations of Congress leaders during the election period, aimed at achieving political advantage through mud-slinging.

The party asserted that the post was unfounded and malicious, crafted specifically to damage the image of its leaders.

The issue arose earlier today when AAP posted on its X account, presenting its leader Arvind Kejriwal as the sole ‘clean and honest’ politician, while branding others as ‘dishonest’.

At least three prominent Congress figures were highlighted in that viral post, including LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, party treasurer Ajay Maken, and Sandeep Dikshit, who is contesting against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency.

The post further praised Kejriwal as the ‘lone warrior’ capable of confronting all adversaries, including BJP leaders.

As the post attracted significant attention, it ignited a verbal confrontation between AAP and Congress, former allies, with Congress vehemently criticizing the ruling party.

In its complaint to the EC, Congress pointed out that AAP is the same party engaging in smear campaigns while some of its leaders have spent considerable time in jail due to corruption allegations.

The Congress party emphasized that this action represents a blatant breach of the model code of conduct and called for AAP to be instructed to erase the contentious post from its social media and to halt such 'malicious' campaigning.
