Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, March 6 (NationPress) — The Adani Group has been officially designated as the partner for the World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2026. This international observance is organized by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and facilitated by the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO).
This marks the inaugural occasion where a company from India has been honored by the WFEO to acknowledge the contributions of engineers on this significant day dedicated to sustainable development.
As India's leading developer in transport, utilities, and infrastructure, the Adani Group views this recognition as a validation of its initiatives to propel the clean energy transition. The Group aims to provide clean, dependable, and affordable energy at scale—enhancing India’s energy security while aligning with global sustainability objectives (Sustainable Development Goal 7).
“We are showcasing how clean energy can be both large-scale and affordable. This is India's global contribution—a blueprint where progress and sustainability advance together. Our Khavda renewable energy facility is a symbol of India’s climate response, exemplifying the collaborative efforts of Adani Green Energy, Adani Energy Solutions, and Adani New Industries towards a unified renewable future,” stated Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy.
The theme for ‘WED 2026’ is “Smart engineering for a sustainable future through innovation and digitalisation”.
The extensive work of the Adani Group in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and large-scale utility systems aligns with this vision, showcasing how technology-led engineering can foster sustainable development under real-world conditions.
Located in Gujarat, the Khavda renewable energy project aims for a capacity of 30 GW by 2029, which the WFEO has spotlighted as a pivotal illustration of India’s transition to green energy as part of its World Engineering Day 2026 initiatives. A short film has been produced to highlight the project's scale, ambition, and impact.
Spanning 538 sq km, the project is five times larger than Paris and nearly as expansive as Mumbai. Upon completion, it will stand as the world’s largest power plant across all energy sources.
As of now, Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has successfully operationalized over 7 GW of renewable energy at Khavda and is on track to reach the full 30 GW by 2029.
