One of the significant programs, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, focuses on providing affordable housing for low and moderate-income families and has been successfully executed in Sangli district, Maharashtra.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is one of the ambitious programs initiated by PM Modi. This initiative offers financial support to those in need to construct durable homes. Approximately 70,000 houses have been constructed in Sangli district as a result of this program.
The Gram Panchayat officer in the area shared with IANS, "Many residents depend on labor for their livelihood and belong to underprivileged backgrounds. They required stable housing. We conducted a survey through the Gram Panchayat, and a list of eligible candidates was compiled. Many disadvantaged individuals have received permanent homes as a result."
Nandini Ghanekar, the Sangli District Coordinator for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, stated, "This scheme has been operational since 2016. To date, around 70,000 houses have been erected under this initiative, with over 50,000 completed in the year 2021-22 alone. Many more homes are nearing completion, and work is progressing rapidly. We have successfully implemented Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the district, and the community is pleased with the housing provided through the scheme."
A beneficiary expressed, "Previously, I lived in a mud house and faced numerous challenges. Thanks to the central government’s initiative, I now own a pucca house."
Since 2014, the central government has been dedicated to identifying and assisting more beneficiaries, with 69,800 houses allocated under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Sangli district so far. This initiative has made the dream of homeownership a reality for many beneficiaries.
