Is the AI Summit Just a Disorganized PR Stunt?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) – On the third day of the India-AI Impact Summit 2026, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his concerns, claiming the event is more of a publicity stunt rather than a genuine initiative to enhance India’s artificial intelligence sector.
Gandhi criticized the summit for not prioritizing India’s own talent and responsible data usage, labeling it a 'disorganized PR spectacle'.
In a post on social media platform X, he stated, "Rather than utilizing India’s talent and data, the AI summit has devolved into a disorganized PR spectacle - with Indian data being sold and Chinese products on display."
He also shared a post from the Congress party alleging serious misconduct by the government regarding the summit and its accompanying exhibition.
The Congress party claimed that the Modi government has tarnished India’s international reputation concerning artificial intelligence.
"The Modi government has made India a laughing stock globally in terms of AI. During this summit, Chinese robots are being showcased as our own. We are mocked by the Chinese media. This is truly humiliating for India," the post stated.
Moreover, the Congress accused Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw of endorsing Chinese products at the summit.
"What’s even more disgraceful is that Modi’s minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is complicit in this deception, promoting China’s robots at the Indian summit," the post continued.
Continuing its critique, the Congress party asserted that the government has turned a vital and promising sector into a joke, despite India’s capability to lead globally with its data and talent.
"The Modi government has inflicted irreversible damage on our country's image – they have made AI a mockery – a field in which we could excel due to our data strength. It’s brazenly shameful," the Congress added.
Meanwhile, authorities have instructed Galgotias University to vacate the AI Impact Summit Expo amid allegations that the institution displayed a Chinese-made robotic dog as its own creation. The university faced significant backlash both online and offline after the robotic dog, supposedly produced by a Chinese company, was seen at its exhibition stall.
Earlier, amid rising criticism, the university issued a clarification regarding the 'propaganda' against it.
They stated that robotic programming is part of their initiative to educate students on developing AI applications, enabling them to gain real-world skills using available global tools and resources.
The India-AI Impact Summit is a five-day event founded on three core pillars, or “Sutras”: People, Planet, and Progress.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India-AI Impact Expo 2026, emphasizing that the nation’s advancements in AI will not only create transformative solutions domestically but will also contribute to global progress.
