Mumbai, Sep 20 (NationPress) As the anticipation grows for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup India 2025, Bollywood icon Akshay Kumar has stepped forward to unite the nation in support of the Women in Blue. He called upon fans to display the same fervor and enthusiasm for women’s cricket as they do for the men’s game.
Akshay Kumar conveyed his thoughts in a video shared by JioStar, the official broadcaster for this year's prestigious women's tournament.
Reflecting on the significance of supporting the Women in Blue, Akshay Kumar reminisced about his experience of witnessing the 2017 World Cup final, sharing the emotions it evoked within him.
He stated, "I still recall the 2017 World Cup final. I traveled by train from Scotland to the stadium to see the final. That’s when I felt the passion of our women’s cricket team. Why did I go? Because I realized that cricket knows no gender. There’s only one jersey, one passion, and one team: Team India.
He continued, "Typically, we cheer for the men’s team. However, true support will emerge when we cheer for our women’s team with equal vigor. A genuine fan stands with every player, regardless of gender. This embodies the essence of the real blue. 'Jersey Wahi, Jazba wahi!'
In the video, Akshay is also seen holding the No. 18 jersey of Indian Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, emphasizing that whether it’s Virat Kohli or Smriti Mandhana, the jersey signifies unity.
India, in collaboration with Sri Lanka, will host the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, kicking off with the opening match in Guwahati on September 30. Currently, the Indian team is engaged in a three-match ODI series against World Champions Australia at home.
With hopes of clinching their first ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title on home soil, India aims to go all the way after reaching the finals in the previous edition but falling short of victory. This time, fans are optimistic that the team will triumph at home.
