Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 16 (NationPress) Actress Ameesha Patel has expressed her thoughts on the execution of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, emphasizing that it is crucial to heed the perspectives of women for the advancement of our nation.
While discussing the proposed implementation of the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam', which aims to allocate 33 percent reservation for women in both Parliament and state legislatures, Ameesha conveyed to IANS that she has “always backed women’s advancement in every sector.”
“Particularly when they receive a greater percentage of representation, whether in employment or in Parliament, and when their voices are acknowledged, it is vital. I have always supported this initiative,” she stated.
“Moreover, I am pleased about this development, but why stop at 33 percent? It should be 100 percent reservation... why not? Empowering women is immensely significant,” added the actress, renowned for her roles in films like “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha”, “Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai”, and “Humraaz”.
Ameesha pointed out that it is women who truly grasp the real concerns.
“Absolutely, as it is a woman who comprehends genuine issues, the challenges faced by everyday individuals and domestic matters. Thus, it is essential to listen to women's voices for the nation's growth,” she remarked.
The Women's Reservation Bill, also known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, ensures one-third reservation for women in legislative assemblies.
It was enacted in Parliament in 2023, with a proposed legislation aiming to dissociate its implementation from the 2027 Census, basing it instead on the 2011 Census to facilitate its execution before the 2029 general election. Now, the focus is on its nationwide implementation, with a special session of Parliament scheduled today.
Regarding her career, Ameesha was last seen in Gadar 2, a period action drama directed by Anil Sharma. This sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha features Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma, among others, and is set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
Gadar 2 achieved significant success, becoming the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, the tenth highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, and the fifth highest-grossing Hindi film in India.
She is reportedly set to appear in Tauba Tera Jalwa, directed by Akashaditya Lama, alongside Jatin Khurana and Angela Krislinzki.
