Amit Shah Critiques Congress Amidst Assam Campaigning
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Apr 2 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a fierce critique of the Congress during a campaign rally for Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader and Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta in Nagaon. He emphasized that the NDA’s decade of governance has significantly improved the state, contrasting it with the alleged shortcomings of prior Congress administrations.
Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd in Nagaon district, Shah celebrated Assam’s rich heritage, honoring its heroes and revolutionaries. He called on voters to secure a “hattrick victory” for the NDA in the upcoming Assembly elections on April 9.
He confidently asserted the strength of the BJP-AGP alliance, dismissing claims of discord within as mere fabrication. Shah further accused the Congress of having overlooked Assam during its time in power.
“What did Rahul Gandhi achieve while in charge? Merely Rs 1.28 lakh crore?” he questioned, juxtaposing it with the substantial funding that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has provided for the state’s infrastructure and development.
Shah claimed that Congress has fostered illegal migration into Assam. He reassured the public that the NDA government aligns itself with Assam’s Muslims, not with unauthorized migrants.
The Home Minister asserted that the BJP-led coalition has prioritized the protection of the rights and identities of indigenous communities, promoting inclusive development. He celebrated the NDA’s accomplishments under former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, dubbing this period as Assam’s “golden years.”
Shah pointed to enhanced law and order, asserting that Assam is now liberated from “red terror,” alluding to past insurgency issues.
He highlighted conservation initiatives in Kaziranga National Park, claiming that the NDA has been pivotal in safeguarding the endangered one-horned rhinoceros.
Shah criticized the Congress for failing to honor Assam’s luminaries, noting the Bharat Ratna awards that were given to Gopinath Bordoloi and Bhupen Hazarika under the BJP regime, which were previously neglected during Congress rule.
In a bid to unify the alliance, Shah remarked, “Wherever there is an elephant, consider it as a lotus; where there is a lotus, consider it as an elephant,” encouraging voters to see the AGP (symbolized by the elephant) and BJP (represented by the lotus) as one entity.
As campaigning intensifies, Shah’s statements signify a vigorous effort by the NDA to rally support, placing development, nationalism, and identity at the forefront of their electoral strategy while directly countering the Congress.
