The Ministry of Home Affairs’s Department of Official Language Secretary, Anshuli Arya, revealed that over 3,000 senior officials, representatives, and specialists from Central government offices, public sector enterprises, and banks in the Northern, Eastern, and North-Eastern regions will attend this unprecedented conference in Tripura.
Approximately 20 states are expected to have representatives present, marking this as the inaugural event of its kind in Tripura.
States participating include West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand from the Eastern region; Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim from the North-Eastern region; and Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh from the Northern region.
Arya highlighted that artificial intelligence and modern technologies will significantly aid in addressing challenges related to language.
“Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah consistently communicate in straightforward Hindi for the benefit of the general populace. Even the Union Home Minister utilizes the official language of the respective states in his correspondence,” she conveyed to the media.
Arya noted that the Union government has continually promoted the use of Hindi alongside 22 other Indian languages, including local languages, to reinforce the cultural heritage of the nation.
The Department of Official Language, under the MHA, has initiated multiple efforts to encourage the broader usage of Hindi and other Indian languages nationwide.
“There is no intention to impose a dominant language like Hindi over local or other Indian languages,” affirmed the official.
During the conference, 80 Regional Official Language Awards for the year 2024-25 will be distributed to Central government offices, banks, and undertakings that have exemplified the implementation of the Official Language Policy.
Additionally, selected City Official Language Implementation Committees will receive recognition through the Nagar Rajbhasha Karyanvayan Samiti (NARAKAS) Rajbhasha Samman.
Awardees will be chosen based on quarterly progress reports submitted through the official information management system and will be honored with certificates and shields, Arya added.
The inaugural session on Friday will also feature the launch of the Northeast Special Issue of Rajbhasha Bharati, curated by the Department of Official Language.
Furthermore, books titled “Indian Languages and the Official Language Hindi – Timeless Works” and “Timeless Inspiring Verses of Amritvani Sanskrit” will be unveiled during the event.
An exhibition showcasing innovations, best practices, and activities related to the implementation of the official language will be organized at the venue by various banks, literary institutions, and other organizations.
Additionally, a yoga session aimed at promoting a healthy and stress-free lifestyle among officials will be conducted on Thursday, featuring simple asanas, pranayama, and stress-management techniques under the guidance of skilled instructors.
The Department of Official Language was established as an independent entity on June 26, 1975, with the purpose of effectively implementing constitutional provisions concerning Hindi, the Union’s official language in the Devanagari script.
This department organizes four regional official language conferences annually to assess progress and promote Hindi usage in official work.
This conference is the second joint regional conference of the financial year 2025–26, following the inaugural session held at Devi Ahilya University in Indore.
