Is JDU Candidate Anant Singh's Arrest in Dularchand Yadav's Murder Case the Catalyst for Bihar's Political Turmoil?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Nov 2 (NationPress) The political climate in Bihar intensified on Sunday after the Janata Dal (United) candidate and former Mokama MLA Anant Singh was taken into custody in relation to the Dularchand Yadav murder case early Sunday morning.
Kartikeya K Sharma, the Senior Superintendent of Police of Patna, arrived in Mokama with a significant police force and apprehended Singh at his Barh home around 12:30 a.m. while he was reportedly asleep.
He was transported to Patna and presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate at approximately 2 a.m., after which he was placed in judicial custody.
Confirming the arrest of Anant Singh, SSP Sharma indicated that two other individuals, Manikant Thakur from Nadma village and Ranjeet Ram from Ladma village, were present during the incident.
Authorities assert that evidence placing Anant Singh at the crime scene on the night of the murder led to the arrest.
A specialized CID team has been formed to further investigate the matter.
Around 150 central paramilitary forces and police from Mokama, Barh, Ghoswari, Hathidah, and Bhadaur were deployed for the operation.
It is noteworthy that Singh had campaigned across Mokama throughout the day, visiting various villages.
Shortly after his arrest, a social media message from his account stating “Satyameva Jayate!! I trust the people of Mokama completely, and now the residents of Mokama will engage in the elections,” gained viral traction.
Supporters of Singh have alleged a political conspiracy, while opponents have characterized the action as a lawful procedure.
Dularchand Yadav, an ally of a Jan Suraj candidate, Piyush Priyadarshi alias Lallu Mukhiya, was murdered on Thursday, inciting unrest in the Mokama area.
Initial reports attributed Dularchand Yadav’s death to a gunshot wound. He also suffered a gunshot injury to his leg, but that was not the cause of death.
The autopsy revealed that the lethal injury resulted from a vehicle running over his chest, causing multiple fractures and ruptured lungs.
The examination was conducted by a panel of three doctors over nearly two hours in Barh, under the supervision of a magistrate.
Anant Singh’s name emerged during the initial investigation.
The timing — just days before polling — carries immediate electoral implications.
Anant Singh holds significant sway in Mokama, and his unexpected arrest is anticipated to shift campaign dynamics within the constituency and possibly within the NDA.
This incident is now regarded as a major flashpoint in this election cycle in Bihar.
