Amaravati, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, has officially revealed plans for India's inaugural and the largest green ammonia project globally. AM Green is set to construct a Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Complex in Kakinada, with an ambitious capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The initial major equipment erection ceremony at AM Green's facility is slated for Saturday. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan will grace the event.
This monumental project, with a total investment of $10 billion, stands as one of the most significant clean-energy investments ever made in India, as stated by an official announcement.
It is expected to create around 8,000 jobs during the construction phase and will also pave the way for numerous high-skill employment opportunities during operations and in related sectors such as renewables, logistics, storage, and port services.
For the first time in India's history, domestically produced green energy molecules will be exported to international markets including Germany, Japan, and Singapore, establishing India — and specifically Andhra Pradesh — as a clean-energy exporter on the global stage.
Minister for Information Technology, Nara Lokesh, expressed on 'X' that Andhra Pradesh is on the path to becoming the Saudi Arabia of green energy.
This project will utilize the brownfield conversion of an existing ammonia-urea complex.
It is planned to be executed in three phases, ultimately achieving a capacity of 1.5 MTPA by 2030.
AM Green has already secured long-term supply agreements with prominent global companies, including Uniper (Germany), and is in discussions with major firms in Japan and Singapore.
Green ammonia from Kakinada will be utilized worldwide for clean shipping fuel, power generation, and as a pathway to green hydrogen, thereby supporting global decarbonization objectives.
This project distinctly showcases Andhra Pradesh's ability to provide a comprehensive clean-energy value chain from a single state, marking a first for India.
The state will feature large-scale renewable energy generation (solar and wind), continuous power supported by pumped hydro storage, green hydrogen production, green ammonia manufacturing, and port-based export infrastructure for international markets.
The integrated system includes 7.5 GW of solar and wind energy, 1,950 MW of electrolyser capacity, and 2 GW of round-the-clock renewable power, backed by pumped hydro storage, which includes India's pioneering project at Pinnapuram.
