Gandhinagar, July 31 (NationPress) On Thursday, Union Ports, Shipping & Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal officially launched the domestically produced 1 MW Green Hydrogen Power Plant at the Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, Gujarat.
This facility has the potential to generate around 140 metric tonnes of green hydrogen each year and is set to be a vital component in the journey towards maritime decarbonisation and sustainable port operations.
The minister commended the creation of a fully Aatmanirbhar, future-ready hydrogen ecosystem, developed exclusively by Indian engineers, and encouraged other ports nationwide to embrace eco-friendly and innovative technologies. He also acknowledged the DPA’s ongoing dedication to green initiatives, referencing the earlier introduction of India’s first Made-in-India all-electric green tug for port operations.
Reflecting on the Prime Minister’s foundation stone laying for a 10 MW Green Hydrogen Plant during his visit to Bhuj on May 26, Sonowal praised the rapid progress of the project. The successful commissioning of the 1 MW module in just four months, as part of the larger 10 MW initiative, establishes a new standard for the deployment of India’s green hydrogen ecosystem.
“The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) has transformed that vision into reality, showcasing a remarkable example of speed, scale, and skill under Maritime India Vision 2030,” the minister remarked.
This achievement serves as a strong emblem of India’s green transformation under the insightful leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and strengthens the nation's resolve to attain Net Zero emissions, Sonowal emphasized.
Expressing his congratulations to the DPA leadership and the engineering prowess of L&T, the minister stated: “I commend the entire team of Deendayal Port Authority, led by the Chairman, and applaud the engineers of L&T for executing this complex project with extraordinary speed and precision.”
The Union Minister of State for MoPSW, Shantanu Thakur, also lauded this landmark accomplishment, remarking: “This is a significant moment not just for Gujarat, but for the entire nation. The commissioning of this Green Hydrogen plant at DPA underscores India’s expanding leadership in clean energy.”
During the inauguration, the Union Minister was accompanied by Union Minister of State Thakur, Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Secretary T.K. Ramachandran, DPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh, and senior officials from the ministry, the port, and L&T.
