New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) The government has evaluated the previous methodology and has made the approval process for exploration programs and Geological Reports (GRs) related to coal and lignite blocks more straightforward, as announced on Monday.
This initiative represents a significant procedural overhaul and a crucial advancement in promoting the ease of doing business within the exploration industry.
The Ministry of Coal has revised the old methodology and streamlined the approval process for exploration programs and Geological Reports (GRs) prepared by Notified Accredited Prospecting Agencies (APAs) that are accredited by QCI-NABET and have undergone peer review by another such APA.
According to the ministry, the new procedure eliminates the need for approval from the committee established by the Ministry of Coal in January 2022.
Through this recent reform, which expands and utilizes the capabilities of Private Accredited Prospecting Agencies, the government has shown considerable trust in private exploration companies.
“This strategy aims to leverage their efficiency, technological know-how, and innovative solutions for the sustainable development of India’s coal resources while ensuring rigorous transparency and compliance with high technical standards. This change will save a minimum of three months in the approval timeline for Geological Reports, facilitating earlier operationalization of the blocks and aiding coal block allottees in meeting their milestones promptly,” the ministry stated.
The reform is anticipated to speed up exploration efforts, shorten approval times, and support the long-term security and sustainable use of India’s coal resources.
With India’s growing energy demands, there is a pressing need for quicker, more efficient, and technologically advanced exploration of coal and lignite resources.
In alignment with this national priority, the Ministry of Coal continues to implement progressive reforms that enhance transparency, boost private sector involvement, and fortify the nation’s energy readiness.
This initiative further exemplifies the Government’s commitment to modernizing processes and strengthening the exploration framework for Bharat, with the ministry asserting that by enhancing exploration capabilities and increasing private sector participation, it is laying the groundwork for a robust coal ecosystem that will support the ambitions of a Viksit Bharat in the years to come.
