A retired Army jawan was killed and three others injured after a speeding Mahindra XUV allegedly travelling on the wrong side rammed into them near SMP School in Hydershkote, Hyderabad, on Monday, 10 August. The incident falls under the limits of Narsingi Police Station, and the five occupants of the SUV fled the scene, according to eyewitnesses.

How the Crash Unfolded

The retired jawan was riding a scooty when the SUV, allegedly moving at high speed on the wrong side of the road, struck him directly. The impact tossed him into the air; he died on the spot. The vehicle continued and went on to hit other bystanders, including two persons on a Rapido two-wheeler, injuring three people in total.

According to eyewitnesses, five youths travelling in the SUV abandoned the vehicle and fled immediately after the collision. Police said the youths were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, though investigators added they were still working to confirm whether those in the vehicle were drunk at the time of the crash.

Investigation Under Way

Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle is registered to Babu Goud, a resident of the Shamshabad airport area. Police have launched a search to identify and apprehend the occupants. The body of the deceased army veteran has been shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a postmortem examination. The condition of one of the three injured persons is reported to be critical.

A Bloody Night on Telangana Roads

The Hydershkote tragedy was not an isolated event. In a separate accident in Kondapur, a man identified as Srinivasulu, 50, of Wanaparthy district, died after a car hit his motorbike. In Jagtial district, a youth died and another was critically injured when their motorbike lost control and struck a road divider — an incident captured on CCTV.

In Mahabubabad district, a woman was killed on the Warangal-Khammam highway near Marepeda after being knocked down by a milk van. A truck coming from behind subsequently lost control and hit a roadside tree, leaving the driver and cleaner critically injured. In Hanamkonda district, a couple was injured when their car rammed a culvert while trying to avoid a two-wheeler. In Khammam district's Wyra town, three persons were injured in a collision between a car and a truck.

Narsingi Police are working with CCTV footage and vehicle registration details to trace the five youths who fled the Hydershkote scene. The critical condition of one of the injured adds urgency to the investigation. This spate of road fatalities across Telangana in a single night is likely to renew calls for stricter enforcement of drunk-driving and wrong-side-driving norms on city roads.
