Guwahati, Jan 26 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, declared on Sunday that the state will discontinue the new pension schemes. Instead, starting in April, the employees will be covered under the Central government's Unified Pension Scheme.
While addressing the crowd during his Republic Day speech in Dibrugarh, CM Sarma remarked: "There has been dissatisfaction among state government employees regarding the New Pension Scheme (NPS). Consequently, the state has resolved to eliminate the NPS in Assam, making way for the implementation of the Unified Pension Scheme in April.
"This adjustment will guarantee that after completing 25 years of government service, employees are entitled to receive 50 percent of their last drawn salary along with 50 percent of the Dearness Allowance as pension post-retirement."
Additionally, CM Sarma highlighted the development of three towns into cities, with Dibrugarh designated as the second capital of Assam. A new Assembly complex will be established in the Upper Assam town within the next two years.
He stated: "We are enhancing infrastructure to transform three towns into cities - Dibrugarh, Tezpur, and Silchar. By 2027, Dibrugarh will host an Assembly Complex, establishing it as Assam's second capital. Tezpur is set to receive a new Raj Bhawan, while Silchar will be home to a Mini Secretariat.
"Tezpur is poised to become the cultural capital with the new Raj Bhawan, and Silchar will accommodate a Mini Secretariat and the Chief Secretary's Office," he added.
The Chief Minister also declared the creation of a dedicated department for startups in the state.
He pointed out: "Startups are crucial for the economic revival of a new Assam. We will establish the first-ever Department of Startups to promote and facilitate their growth.
