New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Atishi directed a strong message to Lieutenant-Governor (LG) V. K. Saxena in a recent correspondence, accusing him of spreading a misleading narrative regarding the toxins in the Yamuna River. She asserted that if he is unable to execute his duties as the LG, he should step aside and allow those who are prepared to act in the best interests of the residents of the national capital to take over.
This communication from CM Atishi followed a remark from Saxena expressing concern over AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal's statement that the Haryana government was poisoning the Yamuna River.
The LG also criticized the Delhi CM for failing to denounce comments that could create tension between neighboring states and urged her to rise above narrow politics.
In her letter, CM Atishi emphasized, “Instead of dealing with the alarming levels of ammonia in Delhi’s water supply, you have resorted to unfounded claims to divert attention from your failure to meet your responsibilities.”
She urged Saxena to refrain from obeying the directives of his political superiors (BJP) and to focus on the well-being of the residents of the national capital.
CM Atishi criticized the LG for prioritizing his political interests over public welfare, asserting that he is aware that elevated ammonia levels in drinking water can lead to severe health issues, yet continues to allow this contaminated water to be supplied to households.
She condemned LG Saxena, stating that despite controlling the Delhi Jal Board, he has neither taken significant measures to address this crisis nor exhibited any urgency to safeguard public health, instead focusing on a political agenda over the welfare of the citizens he pledged to protect.
The dispute escalated when AAP accused the BJP-led Haryana government of the intentional and indiscriminate discharge of untreated water into the Yamuna River, aiming to disrupt Delhi's water supply.
In response, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini threatened legal action and dismissed the allegations as unfounded.
The political blame game intensified when Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit expressed his astonishment at the inaction of Haryana Police against AAP leaders for such blatant lies.
