New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) Just a week ahead of the Delhi elections, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena indirectly criticized the AAP government by highlighting the deplorable state of the city's essential services and toxic air, urging citizens to make an informed choice on February 5.

During the Jayanti Samaroh Celebrations hosted by the Servants of the People Society at Balwant Ray Mehta Vidya Bhawan, LG Saxena remarked, “The provision of education, healthcare, and clean drinking water is a fundamental duty of the government, yet unfortunately, there are significant gaps in delivering these essential services in certain states.”

“We are fully aware of the unfortunate circumstances in Delhi regarding these critical areas, and it is imperative that we collaborate to enhance the situation,” he emphasized.

“In just a few days, we will be selecting a new government for the city. It’s vital to remember that we are not merely electing a government but a framework that will influence all facets of our lives for the next five years,” he stated.

“By participating in the voting process, we will determine the future of our city's health, transportation, education, infrastructure, water supply, sanitation, and job creation for the upcoming five years,” he added.

“Our votes will dictate the initiatives the new government will adopt to combat toxic air, restore the Yamuna, and promote the welfare of all citizens, particularly the underprivileged,” he mentioned.

As responsible citizens and voters, it is crucial to discern right from wrong without succumbing to external influences, he advised.

LG Saxena also subtly alluded to the declining ethical standards of political dialogue in the city, a comment that follows Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent criticisms of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly engaging in deceptive politics.

“Today’s political landscape requires individuals who can devote themselves entirely to the nation and uphold the high standards established by icons like Lala Lajpat Rai,” LG Saxena stated.

He expressed concern over the current state of politics, stating that Lala Lajpat Rai would likely be disheartened by the present circumstances.

“The standards of politics have eroded, and ethical norms have diminished. Nowadays, a politician may refuse an election ticket from a specific constituency, claiming that the local populace is already familiar with him, which contrasts starkly with past practices,” he noted, indirectly referencing former Delhi CM Manish Sisodia's decision to abandon his Patparganj seat in favor of contesting from Jangpura.

Lalaji was a fervent advocate for universal education, including for women, as well as for providing milk to children and nutritious meals for everyone.

“I confidently assert that if anyone embodies the vision of Lalaji, it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said. “The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative is a brainchild of the PM and reflects Lalaji’s principles,” he added, commending Lala Lajpat Rai's contribution to the establishment of the Servants of the People Society for social welfare.

The LG remarked that numerous freedom fighters and their families have yet to receive the respect and recognition they deserve. “While efforts are underway, there is still much to be accomplished,” he acknowledged.

In memory of Lalaji, if the Servants of the People Society plans to erect a statue, I will lend my support to honor him, Saxena affirmed, recognizing Bhagat Singh's inspiration drawn from Lalaji.

He further commended Lalaji’s foresight in founding the Punjab National Bank over a century ago.

LG Saxena urged voters to participate in high numbers on February 5. “We must all unite in this celebration of democracy and view voting as a civic responsibility,” he stated.

“Children should also be encouraged to motivate their parents to vote on election day,” he advised.
