New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) A heated exchange unfolded on Wednesday between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the quality of Yamuna water provided to Delhi. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini launched a rebuttal against his Delhi counterpart Atishi in response to her statements.
Atishi accused the Haryana government of supplying "poisonous" water to the national capital and challenged Saini to check ammonia levels at Palla Ghat, the juncture where the Yamuna enters Delhi from Haryana.
In a post on X, she extended an invitation to the Haryana CM to visit the location with media representatives and assess the contamination levels.
"Nayab Saini ji, I have heard you are heading to the Palla Ghat of the Yamuna river. I invite you to join me along with media colleagues. We will measure the ammonia content publicly. Everyone must know that Haryana is supplying poisonous water to the residents of Delhi," Atishi posted on X.
In a strong response, Saini rejected Atishi's claims and accused her of disseminating false information. "AAP-da’s wooden sandals (khadau) Chief Minister Atishi Marlena ji, you are welcome to the banks of the Yamuna in Palla village. There is no poison in the water coming to Delhi from Haryana, but your minds are certainly filled with poison," he remarked.
Saini further alleged that the AAP government habitually blames Haryana for its own inadequacies. "Sometimes for water shortages, sometimes for the smoke from stubble burning, and sometimes for all your administrative failings, you consistently hold Haryana accountable," he commented.
Previously, AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had raised concerns over the degrading quality of Yamuna water, accusing the Haryana government of supposedly "poisoning" it. According to Kejriwal, the contamination levels in the water sourced from Haryana are so elevated that Delhi's treatment plants cannot manage it.
During a rally in Delhi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took a direct jab at AAP regarding its accusations. PM Modi firmly rejected the assertion that Haryana was tainting Yamuna’s water and mocked the idea that the BJP-led state government would harm its own citizens.
"A former Delhi Chief Minister has made grave allegations against the people of Haryana. Out of fear of defeat, AAPda has lost its mental balance. Are the residents of Haryana any different from those in Delhi? Don’t their families and relatives live here? Can they poison the water that their own families consume?" he questioned.
Further ridiculing the claim, PM Modi added, "This Prime Minister also consumes the same water. Foreign diplomats, ambassadors, and even Delhi’s underprivileged drink the same water. Does AAP believe the BJP government in Haryana would poison the water to eliminate Modi? What kind of ludicrous assertion is this? Was there also a conspiracy to poison the judges of this country? Delhiites, those who deliberately commit such transgressions are neither forgiven by Delhi nor by the nation."
