Dhaka, Sep 13 (NationPress) The Awami League of Bangladesh has launched a fierce critique against the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, accusing it of the brutal torture and murder of party members within the nation’s prisons.
The party claims that, under the direct orders of the Yunus administration, Awami League leaders and supporters are enduring atrocious torture and persecution in correctional facilities.
A statement from the Awami League declared, "Prison officials, acting on the directives of this illegitimate and unconstitutional regime, have brutally mistreated and even killed numerous Awami League leaders and activists."
"We will not merely express our outrage and protest these occurrences. We issue a stern warning: the reign of the killer-fascist Yunus will be remembered as a dark period in Bangladesh's history. Individuals with a sense of humanity will unite to respond powerfully against this monstrous group and illuminate the future," the statement continued.
Expressing profound concern, the party has consistently condemned and protested these inhumane and savage acts occurring under the Yunus regime.
In July, the Awami League urged the interim government to conduct comprehensive, transparent, and independent investigations into the reported custodial deaths of at least 24 party members since the assumption of power by the Yunus-led interim government.
"The alleged killings that took place in jails and police custody—settings that should be among the safest in any civilized society—represent a severe breach of both national laws and international human rights standards," stated the party.
The Awami League has called on the global community, human rights organizations, and all advocates of justice to support the families of these victims and demand independent inquiries into the custodial deaths occurring throughout Bangladesh.
