Ayushman Bharat Scheme: A Lifeline for Residents of Jharkhand's Palamu
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ranchi, March 17 (NationPress) The Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) has become a transformative initiative for numerous individuals in the Palamu district of Jharkhand, thanks to its provision of free and cashless medical treatment as part of the Central welfare program.
Eligible participants can avail themselves of health coverage amounting to Rs 5 lakh per family annually.
Thousands from Palamu have benefitted from this scheme, receiving free healthcare services.
Beneficiaries and their families expressed that this initiative has significantly alleviated their primary concern—medical expenses—thereby granting them timely access to quality healthcare while easing their financial burdens.
Several beneficiaries shared their stories with IANS.
Shakir Alam, a family member of a patient, recounted that shortly after his wife's delivery, their newborn's health unexpectedly declined.
Upon examination, doctors diagnosed an infection and commenced treatment, which he remarked would have been unaffordable without the Ayushman scheme. Thanks to this initiative, he managed to cover 70 to 80% of his medical expenses without any out-of-pocket costs.
He commended the hospital staff's professionalism, stating that this health initiative is immensely valuable for those in poverty.
Dhananjay Vishwakarma, another beneficiary of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, mentioned that his son is currently receiving treatment through this program.
"Previously, the financial burden for medical treatment was a significant hurdle, but this initiative by the Narendra Modi-led BJP government has provided tremendous relief for underprivileged families," he noted.
Ravi Kumar shared with IANS that the Ayushman Bharat scheme has significantly altered the landscape for impoverished patients.
"Many individuals who once faced obstacles in accessing medical care are now receiving timely and superior healthcare services," he remarked.
Manish Tiwari, a hospital administrator and President of the Private Hospitals Association, indicated that around 10 patients are currently receiving care at his hospital under the Ayushman scheme.
Explaining the straightforward process to access the health scheme's benefits, Tiwari stated, "To avail of the scheme, a patient simply needs to present an Aadhaar card, a Ration card, or an Ayushman card. Once their name is verified on the Ayushman portal, they are admitted, and their treatment is provided at no cost."
He added that this health initiative covers general surgeries, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit services for infants, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit facilities for children, emergency services, and treatment for various critical illnesses.
Whereas the impoverished previously had to rely on loans or liquidate their assets to afford medical treatment, they are now receiving dignified and high-quality care, even in private hospitals.
