In Palwal, Haryana, Over 40,000 Residents Have Benefitted from the Ayushman Bharat Scheme in Six Years

Faridabad, Dec 28 (NationPress) The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has been reaching new heights in broadening essential medical services for the populace and in revolutionizing the healthcare system of the country.
Palwal district in Haryana stands as a shining example of this scheme's effectiveness, with over 5 lakh Ayushman Bharat cards issued and more than 40,000 beneficiaries having availed themselves of the program's benefits.
The district's government-operated civil hospital is at the forefront of this initiative, offering free and affordable medical care to patients dealing with a range of health issues, from minor ailments to critical surgeries.
District Civil Surgeon Jai Bhagwan shared with IANS a comprehensive overview of the health insurance program's growing impact in the district, highlighting how countless residents have received free treatment at the government hospital.
He noted that hundreds of patients benefit from complimentary treatment at the civil hospital every day.
“A total of 7.7 lakh Ayushman cards are planned for Palwal district, with 5.19 lakh already issued. This indicates that 74 percent of the intended beneficiaries are already enrolled,” he informed IANS.
Additionally, he detailed that 23 government and 14 private hospitals are part of the network where Ayushman Bharat card benefits can be utilized.
Expanding on the scheme's reach in the district, he mentioned, “In the last six years, over 40,000 beneficiaries have utilized the program for various health issues, including orthopaedic treatments, cataract surgeries, gynaecological concerns, and general surgical procedures.
He also provided information on how patients can lodge complaints if they encounter issues with their treatment or accessing free care.
“If any patient experiences difficulties, they can file a grievance by calling the toll-free number 14505,” he stated.
As a point of reference, a total of 26 crore Ayushman cards have been issued across the nation as of October 2023. Official estimates indicate that the program has facilitated 5.7 crore hospital admissions, amounting to over Rs 70,000 crore in costs until last year.
Under this flagship initiative implemented by the National Health Authority (NHA), nearly 12 crore families are provided with health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary hospitalization.
