Adhir Chowdhury writes to PM Modi seeking Murshidabad development push
Former West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Tuesday, 12 May wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging his intervention to ensure that the newly Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government in West Bengal undertakes special development initiatives for the minority-dominated Murshidabad district. The letter outlines five key demands spanning infrastructure, industry, river erosion, skill development, and tourism.
Who Is Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury
Chowdhury served as a five-time Lok Sabha member from the Baharampur constituency in Murshidabad district, representing the seat from 1999 until his defeat in the 2024 general elections. He was beaten by cricketer-turned-politician Yusuf Pathan, who now represents the constituency as a Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha member. More recently, Chowdhury contested the West Bengal Assembly polls from the Baharampur Assembly constituency, where he lost to sitting BJP legislator Subrata Maitra.
