Bengaluru, Aug 15 (NationPress) An 8-year-old boy, identified as Mubarak, lost his life and several others were injured in a suspicious explosion that occurred within the jurisdiction of Audugodi police station on Friday. The shocking incident unfolded as the community was engaged in Independence Day festivities, inciting fear among the locals.
Reports indicate that a total of 12 individuals, including another child, an 8-year-old girl, suffered injuries and were promptly taken to multiple hospitals for treatment.
While authorities are investigating a potential gas cylinder explosion, residents argue that the force of the blast was far more powerful than what a typical LPG cylinder would produce. The police have launched an extensive inquiry into the matter.
The explosion took place at the home of Kasturi, a local in Srirama Colony in Chinnayyanapalya, close to Audugodi. Mubarak resided in a neighboring house. The impact was so severe that it caused the roof of Kasturi’s residence to collapse, damaging approximately eight other nearby homes.
Many residents had already left for work early in the day, which likely mitigated the extent of casualties. Locals have reported that some individuals may have sustained serious injuries. Emergency services, including the Fire and Emergency Services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), promptly arrived at the scene.
A local woman recounted, “I was asleep downstairs when I heard a tremendous explosion at 8:15 a.m., and a stone struck my head. I screamed and got up, just as the roof collapsed. We barely managed to escape. My house is only four feet from where it happened. The sound was deafening. An iron cupboard, which typically takes four people to lift, was tossed into the air. If it had been a cylinder explosion, there would have been a smell, but there was none.”
She added, “I’m unsure of what caused it; it felt more like a bomb blast. We were getting ready to fetch water when it happened. We had just left our homes; otherwise, we could have been severely hurt.”
Another resident mentioned, “My wife has a swollen head. I’m still feeling pressure from the blast.”
The Audugodi police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
