Bengaluru, Oct 25 (NationPress) A tragic incident in Bengaluru has resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to three family members due to an explosion on Saturday. The force of the blast caused substantial damage to the residence.
The explosion occurred in Triveninagar within the K.R. Puram area.
Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje conducted a site visit to assess the damage and has called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
The victim has been identified as Akkayyamma, aged 80. The injured include Kiran (25), Shekar (52), and Chandana (22), with Chandana suffering severe burns exceeding 50 percent.
East Division Joint Commissioner of Police Ramesh Banoth also visited the scene to gather details.
He reported: “The explosion happened around 7:30 a.m., leading to the tragic death of an elderly woman who was asleep when the roof collapsed. Three others have been injured, including a woman from the neighboring house.”
“Witnesses indicated that the explosion occurred as a gas stove was ignited. This account is currently under investigation,” he noted.
According to Whitefield Division DCP Parashuram, “Chandana has sustained critical injuries, and the incident has left the house severely damaged, with three outbuildings also affected.”
Local resident Rajalakshmi reported hearing a loud noise between 7 and 7:10 a.m., initially mistaking it for firecrackers due to the Diwali celebrations. Upon investigation, she found the house wrecked.
“The injured were promptly transported to the hospital by neighbors, and the blast was audible for several kilometers,” she added.
Sindhu, a relative of Shekar, expressed concern: “My brother-in-law and his family were in the house. We were alarmed to receive news of their injuries.”
Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje has emphasized the necessity for a detailed investigation into this significant explosion in Triveninagar, K.R. Puram.
After her visit to the site, she stated that the explosion resulted in the loss of a life and considerable damage. She urged that a thorough forensic investigation must be conducted to establish the facts, highlighting that such incidents instill fear in the community.
“There must be an explanation for the collapse of such a robust structure. It's crucial to find out whether the explosion was due to a gas leak or another type of explosive,” she asserted, urging the government to provide compensation to the victim's family and ensure free medical care for the injured.
She remarked on the impact of the blast on neighboring homes, noting that several residents were hospitalized. “Glass shards were scattered over a significant distance,” she observed. She commended the prompt response of police, firefighters, and local citizens who rushed to assist.
The Minister has also requested the government to support residents whose homes were damaged in the explosion. Reports suggest that the involved gas cylinder belonged to Bharat Petroleum, and she urged the company to conduct its own examination.
Former Minister and BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj expressed shock after observing the aftermath of the explosion in Triveninagar.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the building is owned by an individual named Ramesh. Shekar's family had rented the property approximately nine months ago, residing there with two children, Chandana and Kiran Kumar, and the elderly woman Akkayyamma.
