The Indian Railways has made comprehensive preparations to accommodate the influx of passengers as thousands journey home this Saturday to join their families in the festivities.
To manage the busy travel period, the Railways has launched special trains, added coaches, and implemented various passenger-friendly measures at major routes and key stations.
In Bhagalpur, mobile ticketing options have been established in the passenger waiting area to reduce congestion, while the atmosphere is uplifted by the sounds of Chhath devotional songs.
Utpal Sharma, Director of Bhagalpur Railway Station, informed IANS that the Railway Ministry and administration have organized extensive preparations for this year’s Chhath festival.
“Dedicated passenger waiting areas have been set up on station premises, alongside seating facilities. Special staff members are assigned to assist with mobile ticketing so that passengers can avoid long queues. To elevate the festive spirit, we are playing songs dedicated to Chhathi Maiya. Passengers are expressing their gratitude towards the Railways,” Sharma stated.
He noted that stringent security measures have been established to ensure the safety of passengers amidst the large crowds.
Travelers have shared their joy regarding the festive arrangements and the Chhath songs filling the station.
Kumar Anu Singh, who reached Bhagalpur for the festival, stated, “This is the first time the station is playing these songs. Today is 'Nahay Khay', and listening to these devotional songs on this occasion is wonderful — it brings joy.”
Another traveler, Happy Rajesh, expressed, “It's a brilliant initiative to create a spiritual ambiance at the station. Enjoying Chhath songs while waiting for the train is quite delightful. We appreciate the administration's efforts.”
Ranveer Singh, who is traveling to Samastipur, remarked, “This time, the arrangements are impressive. There’s an extra waiting area where people can relax without standing in long lines.”
Preeti Lata, on her way to Jharkhand for Chhath, commented, “Although the journey is lengthy, I’m pleased with the excellent arrangements. The Chhath songs playing at the platforms is a fantastic idea — the administration has truly excelled.”
Aisha, a college student returning to Uttar Pradesh, shared that despite not being able to celebrate Chhath Puja at home this year, the atmosphere at the station filled her with happiness.
“I missed out on Chhath Puja this time, but these songs have lifted my spirits. The devotion in the air is palpable just from listening to them. This is a commendable initiative,” she told IANS.
In the meantime, the Railways Ministry confirmed that approximately 6,181 special trains have been announced for October 28 to assist passengers returning to work after the festivities. Over 12,000 special trains are operating nationwide, with more than 900 special trips planned in the next three days to manage the festive influx.
In Bihar alone, around 30 railway stations are being enhanced to accommodate the significant passenger surge, featuring added ticket counters, CCTV surveillance, weatherproof waiting areas, and improved crowd management systems to ensure a safe and pleasant journey for all travelers.
