BJP Criticizes Trinamool Congress for Illegal Infiltration and Lack of Development in Bengal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 9 (NationPress) Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a fierce critique against the Trinamool Congress-led government of West Bengal and its Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday. They accused Banerjee of attempting to facilitate the influx of illegal immigrants into the country. The BJP also pointed fingers at the Trinamool for various developmental shortcomings in the state.
As the two-phased Assembly elections approach on April 23 and 29, BJP leaders are actively campaigning throughout the state.
BJP Member of Parliament Raju Bista stated, "Mamata Didi (Banerjee) aims to distribute illegal infiltrators, including Rohingyas, across the nation, but the residents of West Bengal will not permit that to happen."
Bista expressed his concern over Banerjee's statements regarding the safety of Bengalis, suggesting that it reflects poorly on her leadership. "If the Chief Minister claims that Bengalis are being assaulted, it is unfortunate that we have such a leader," he remarked.
Bista further accused Banerjee of weakening the people of Bengal, stating, "The residents of Bengal do not seek conflict; such an environment is fostered by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee."
Accountability was a key theme as BJP leader Rohan Gupta told IANS, "If the people of West Bengal entrusted such a significant mandate to the Trinamool Congress for a decade, it was their duty to deliver results. What have they accomplished?"
He criticized the West Bengal government for lacking a single issue to discuss. "Why is the Trinamool Congress opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and speaking against the Constitution? They were in power; how long can they resist it?" Gupta questioned.
"The public will reflect on their record this time. Trinamool has nothing to showcase for the past decade in power in West Bengal, which is why they oppose everything," he asserted.
Gupta warned that Trinamool would face consequences for regressing West Bengal over the past ten years.
BJP candidate Debashish Mukherjee, contesting in the Chanditala Assembly constituency, highlighted the flooding problems in Dankuni. He remarked, "The Trinamool Congress has made such strides in development over the last 15 years that even household utensils are floating in floodwaters during the summer. The monsoon hasn’t even arrived yet."
"The drainage system desperately needs reconstruction, which the Trinamool has failed to address. They simply don't know how to get things done," he concluded.
