Kolkata, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently shared a video that depicted the destruction of a Hindu teacher's residence in Gowainghat, Sylhet, located in neighboring Bangladesh. The party drew parallels to similar alleged occurrences in the minority-heavy district of West Bengal.
Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP's Information Technology Cell and a central observer for West Bengal, posted the video on his social media account, claiming that the teacher’s house was set ablaze simply due to his Hindu identity.
In his post, Malviya referenced the video while comparing the incident in Bangladesh to comparable instances in the riot-affected Murshidabad district of West Bengal from the previous year, where violent protests were sparked by the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
“Just as Hindu homes were systematically targeted in Murshidabad, we see another alarming, deliberate attack on a Hindu family in Bangladesh. The residence of teacher Birendra Kumar Dey (known as “Jhunu Sir”) in Gowainghat, Sylhet, was set afire solely because of his Hindu faith. This is not random violence; it is a methodical, targeted oppression,” Malviya stated in his post.
He emphasized that the harrowing events in Gowainghat serve as a warning to Hindu Bengalis in West Bengal. If they do not recognize the looming threat, they risk meeting a fate similar to that of Horgobindo Das and Chandan Das, who were brutally lynched during riots in Murshidabad last year.
Malviya asserted that the incidents of Hindu lynching in Bangladesh should serve as an ominous alert for the Hindu community in West Bengal.
“If Hindu Bengalis remain oblivious, the Mamata Banerjee administration will lead them to the same tragic outcome as Horgobindo and Chandan Das, who were horrifically targeted while the state turned a blind eye. The persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh today is a cautionary tale for West Bengal tomorrow. This targeted violence against Hindus must awaken every Sanatani in West Bengal before it’s too late,” Malviya warned.
Bangladesh has been under scrutiny recently due to a series of horrific attacks against the minority Hindu community.
Last month saw widespread protests against the brutal slaying of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu garment factory worker.
From Delhi to Kolkata and Bhopal to Hyderabad, there was a surge of public outrage as Hindu groups took to the streets, denouncing the targeted violence against minorities in the neighboring country.
The 25-year-old Hindu man, who was employed in a garment factory, was dragged into the streets, brutally beaten to death by an enraged mob, and then his body was set ablaze after being tied to a tree. The mob, comprising radicals and extremists, accused him of blasphemy, leading to the horrific attack.
