Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 9 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday commended the citizens of Maharashtra for once more backing the Bharatiya Janata Party and its Mahayuti coalition in the recently held Zilla Parishad elections. In a message on X, he characterized the outcomes as a definitive endorsement for good governance and an alliance that is deeply rooted in the state's vibrant cultural legacy.
The BJP-led Mahayuti, which includes the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde and the Nationalist Congress Party under Ajit Pawar, achieved a robust victory, securing 552 out of 731 Zilla Parishad seats. The coalition also won over 1,000 out of the 1,462 Panchayat Samiti seats, as reported by the State Election Commission.
Within this coalition, the BJP was the most significant contributor, winning 225 seats, followed by the NCP with 165 and Shiv Sena with 162. This success builds on the alliance's previous triumphs in the 2024 Assembly elections and recent municipal corporation and council elections conducted through late 2025 and early 2026.
Prime Minister Modi expressed heartfelt thanks to the “sisters and brothers of Maharashtra” for their unwavering support. He highlighted that the results reflect a broad desire across both rural and urban areas for effective administration and development that aligns with the state’s illustrious traditions.
He gave special recognition to every Mahayuti worker who campaigned diligently, emphasizing the achievements of the Maharashtra Government and the NDA's overarching vision for progress and welfare.
The results underscored the ruling alliance's strength in local governance following its strong performance in urban civic bodies, where it attained majorities in key municipal corporations, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and others. Voter turnout in the Zilla Parishad elections was approximately 68.28 percent, indicating strong public participation. This recent victory solidifies the Mahayuti’s momentum in Maharashtra, enhancing its grassroots presence.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis previously noted that the results demonstrate public trust in the alliance's performance across urban, semi-urban, and rural areas.
