Should BJP Educate Its Workers on Vande Mataram Protocol?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena (UBT) expressed her support for the government's recent move to establish a formal protocol for the presentation of Vande Mataram during official events while also critiquing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In response to this announcement, Chaturvedi remarked, “During the last session, it was suggested in the Rajya Sabha that the slogan ‘Vande Mataram’ could not be raised. We opposed this strongly. There was even mention of ‘Vande Bharat’ in discussions about Vande Mataram. Therefore, it’s beneficial that members of the BJP will now learn the distinction between ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Vande Bharat’.
She continued, “If they acknowledge this positive change, they might also take the initiative to educate their party members.”
These comments arrive as attention on the national song is heightened following the government’s release of new, detailed guidelines for its performance at official functions.
The Union Home Ministry issued comprehensive directives outlining when and how Vande Mataram should be performed at government events and the expected behavior of the audience, especially regarding the national anthem.
The objective of these guidelines is to solidify the ceremonial role of the national song during public and official gatherings, emphasizing its importance during state events.
As per the new regulations, the full official version of Vande Mataram, which includes six stanzas and lasts around 3 minutes and 10 seconds, is to be sung or played at significant state occasions. Such events encompass the hoisting of the national flag, the formal arrival and departure of the President and Governors at official functions, as well as before and after their scheduled speeches.
The directive stresses the need for maintaining decorum and respect during the rendition, aligning its observance more closely with the practices surrounding the national anthem.
