Bengaluru, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Chief Secretary to take decisive measures against individuals who verbally abuse and physically threaten government officials.
Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka presented a memorandum to Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh on Friday, having invited her to his office for discussion.
“During the Congress regime, there is a lack of protection for officials. We have stressed to the Chief Secretary that strict action should be taken against those who abuse and assault officials, and to ensure their safety,” Ashoka expressed.
He pointed out that Congress leader Rajeev Gowda had verbally assaulted Sidlaghatta Municipal Commissioner Amrutha Gowda, yet Minister K.H. Muniyappa defended him.
Ashoka claimed that Muniyappa suggested that Rajeev Gowda was a good person and that the female officer was at fault. He further alleged that the Congress administration has led to an increase in official suicides over the past two years.
“Congress members have converted government offices into party headquarters. I called the Chief Secretary to express my concerns and reminded her of her responsibility to protect officials. The police have allowed those who make such statements to evade consequences, and they are also complicit in this issue,” he charged.
“If this situation persists, officials will have no security. We urged the Chief Secretary to take measures against the wrongdoers,” he added.
“There has been no action taken against the perpetrators in cases such as the suicide of PSI Parashuram, SDI Rudranna Yadavannanavar, librarian Bhagyavati, or MLA Balakrishna threatening the tehsildar,” he criticized.
Ashoka alleged that officials are left with two choices: to protest or to take their own lives. He defended Municipal Commissioner Amrutha Gowda for going to the media to voice her concerns regarding the Congress leader's actions.
In contrast, BJP MLC C.T. Ravi was arrested and made to endure humiliation in the forest for allegedly using inappropriate language against Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, yet no one has been arrested in these cases, Ashoka remarked.
“I will be visiting Ballari on Saturday (Jan 17) to protest. The law and order situation has deteriorated to the extent that bullets are fired at MLAs’ residences. The Home Department lacks funding, making it impossible to ensure security. This decline in law and order hampers development and deters new industries from coming in,” he said.
Ashoka noted that the BJP's success in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections foreshadows a similar outcome in Bengaluru.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged tampering with EVMs but hasn't provided any proof. He only claims vote theft in areas where Congress has lost, failing to raise such concerns in Karnataka and Telangana where they won,” he added.
Thus, Ashoka deemed Gandhi's statements as lacking credibility.
Ashoka claimed that election officials are removing Bangladeshi residents from the voter rolls during special revisions. He alleged that two crore Bangladeshi nationals have entered India and are involved in criminal activities, asserting that Congress exploits such individuals for electoral gains. He stated that the BJP would support special revisions in Karnataka.
