New Delhi, Oct 18 (NationPress) A significant achievement in India’s journey towards Aatmanirbharta in defense was marked on Saturday as Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the initial batch of supersonic BrahMos missiles manufactured at the Lucknow facility of BrahMos Aerospace Limited.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised BrahMos as “the most capable weapon to safeguard not only India but also our allied nations globally.”
He emphasized that the production of this missile in Lucknow, realized through the Defence Minister’s efforts, actualizes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and signifies a remarkable moment for the country.
“BrahMos, developed in Lucknow through the dedicated efforts of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has emerged as a symbol of national prosperity. Only when citizens feel secure can they find peace, and the Lucknow-produced missile guarantees the safety and welfare of the entire nation. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for this achievement,” he stated.
In discussing the success of the UP-Defence Manufacturing Corridor, the CM reminded attendees that it was first introduced at the 2018 Investors Summit, with one of the two national corridors assigned to Uttar Pradesh.
Importantly, progress is ongoing across six nodes—Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot—with significant projects like BrahMos in Lucknow, Bharat Dynamics Limited in Jhansi, and AK-203 rifles in Amethi.
Moreover, over 2,500 acres have been allocated so far, creating job opportunities for more than 15,000 youths.
CM Yogi added that the “BrahMos facility employs ITI, polytechnic, and engineering graduates, connecting national security with youth employment and self-reliance.”
The state government, in collaboration with IIT Kanpur and IIT BHU, is also establishing two Centres of Excellence to foster defense technology and innovation.
Additionally, the DG of BrahMos, Dr. Jaytirth R. Joshi, presented a Rs 40 crore GST cheque during the occasion.
The CM observed that an annual production of 100 missiles—which is set to increase to 150—will generate Rs 150–200 crore in GST, bolstering the economy of both the state and the nation.
“Lucknow’s land is now yielding gold—ensuring national security while driving prosperity,” he remarked, assuring that additional land would be provided for DRDO if necessary.
