New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) Three infamous burglars, linked to a string of break-ins in the Vasant Kunj neighborhood of the national capital, have been captured, resolving six incidents reported in the last two months, as announced by the Delhi Police on Thursday.
The suspects have been named as Sunil alias Rabban, Sunil alias Sonu, and Md. Salim.
They were located following a focused operation by the personnel from Vasant Kunj South police station, in response to the surge in burglary and attempted burglary cases.
The police reported that these arrests followed multiple complaints received in October and November, suggesting the presence of an organized group.
The first reported case occurred on the night of October 17-18, where Rs 10,000 in cash and an imported flashlight were stolen from a residence.
Another incident took place at a local temple between October 26-27, with nearly Rs 80,000 in cash, a 10-gram silver coin, a silver plate, and other valuables being taken.
Additional attempts at burglary on November 11 and 19 further solidified the belief that the same group was repeatedly targeting the area.
A specialized team led by Inspector Arvind Pratap Singh, the SHO of Vasant Kunj South, and overseen by ACP Ved Prakash, was assembled to capture the criminals.
According to the Delhi Police, "The team conducted an extensive review of over 150 CCTV cameras from surrounding streets and nearby societies."
"More than 60 suspects with previous burglary or theft involvement were questioned, and files on active criminals were scrutinized," they added.
After ongoing surveillance and local intelligence, the first arrest of Sunil alias Sonu was made, leading to the subsequent detainment of the other two suspects.
The police noted that the accused planned their targets after scouting near forest areas for rapid escape routes.
They utilized a vehicle belonging to Sunil alias Rabban and often included an associate with no prior criminal record to avoid detection.
Recovered items include Rs 15,050 in cash, silver plates, a silver panchjot, clothing, footwear, iron cutters, an iron rod, and the WagonR car used during the crimes.
Both Sunil alias Rabban and Sunil alias Sonu have a record of over 15 cases each, involving serious offenses such as murder, attempted murder, robbery, dacoity, and theft.
Further investigation is ongoing.
