The arrests were executed by the team from PP Subroto Park, operating under Police Station Delhi Cantt in the South-West District. The suspects have been identified as Rinku Khan alias Kotal (24) and Ajay alias Banty (24), both hailing from East Mehram Nagar, Delhi.
The South-West District Police reported that the PP Subroto Park team launched a quick operation to capture the suspects linked to a mobile phone snatching incident near Dhaula Kuan Metro Station.
A call to the PCR was made at PS Delhi Cantt on February 9, around 10:45 p.m., reporting the snatching of a mobile phone. Officers arrived at the scene and encountered the victim, Tarooshra Singh (20), who is from Lucknow.
The victim explained to the police that he is studying engineering and was returning to Lucknow after a week’s break from his college. While waiting for a bus at the Dhaula Kuan area around 10:40 p.m., two individuals on a scooty approached him and snatched his phone before fleeing.
Following the victim's complaint, a case was registered under FIR No. 157/26, with Sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), prompting an investigation.
During the investigation, one of the snatchers, identified as Rinku Khan alias Kotal, was arrested by the PP Subroto Park team, who recovered the stolen mobile phone from his possession. Additionally, the police retrieved the scooty used in the incident.
The scooty was found to be registered under the name of Rinku Khan’s father.
After analyzing CCTV footage from the area, police identified the second suspect, Ajay alias Banty, also from East Mehram Nagar, and he was arrested subsequently.
During interrogation, the police stated they solved another mobile theft case and recovered an additional stolen mobile phone.
The police disclosed the criminal histories of both suspects. Rinku Khan is reportedly connected to eight prior cases involving theft, robbery, and violations of the Arms Act at various police stations in Delhi, while Ajay alias Banty is linked to six previous cases of theft and robbery.
The recoveries from the suspects include one snatched mobile phone, one stolen mobile phone, and the scooty involved in the crime.
So far, two cases have been resolved: FIR No. 157/26 under Sections 304(2) and 3(5) BNS, and E-FIR No. 80110078/24 under Section 303(2) BNS, both recorded at PS Delhi Cantt, Delhi.
Further investigations are ongoing.
