New Delhi, Nov 21 (NationPress) On Friday, the Delhi Police successfully apprehended a thief accused in a mobile phone snatching incident, following meticulous technical monitoring and extensive on-ground efforts by the Jama Masjid Police Station team from the Central District. The original Aadhaar card belonging to the victim was also retrieved during the operation.
As per a statement issued by the Central District Police, the incident took place on September 16, when a report of mobile phone snatching was filed at Jama Masjid Police Station. The victim, a BSF officer visiting Delhi for a posting, was in the Jama Masjid area. At approximately 6 PM, while strolling near the Service Road at Kabutar Market, he was approached by two unidentified men—one blocked his path while the other swiftly snatched his Vivo V-40E mobile phone, which also held an ATM card.
The victim promptly raised an alarm, shouting “Chor-Chor,” which alerted ASI Neeraj Tyagi and Constable Sumit, who were patrolling the vicinity. They successfully apprehended one of the suspects and retrieved the stolen mobile phone from him.
In light of the victim’s account and the details surrounding the incident, a case was formally registered under FIR No. 455/2025 U/s 304(2)/317(2)/3(5) BNS at PS Jama Masjid. The investigation was directed towards identifying the absconding co-accused.
A specialized team, including Head Constable (HC) Narender, HC Vipin, HC Kuldeep, and Ct. Sumit, was assembled under the leadership of the SHO of PS Jama Masjid and oversight from the ACP of Daryaganj, to track down the missing suspect, known as Sarfaraz alias Chotu.
Through relentless technical tracking, data analysis, and confidential intelligence, the police monitored the suspect’s movements. On November 20, 2025, acting on a reliable tip-off, the team arrested the 22-year-old Sarfaraz from JJ Colony, Bawana.
Upon searching him, police discovered the clothes he had worn during the crime and the original Aadhaar card of the victim.
During thorough interrogation, Sarfaraz admitted his role in the snatching and pointed out his accomplice, Khurshid alias Bona. He disclosed that on September 16, they had targeted the victim after noticing him using his phone in Meena Bazaar. Following their plan, Khurshid snatched the mobile phone, which contained the ATM and Aadhaar cards, while Sarfaraz kept the cards. When the victim raised an alarm, Sarfaraz fled and later destroyed the ATM card.
Sarfaraz further revealed that he worked as a laborer and had developed an addiction to smack due to negative influences. To feed his addiction, he and Khurshid resorted to thefts and snatchings.
The investigation continues to identify further associates and uncover any additional criminal activities related to the accused.
