Jabalpur, Sep 4 (NationPress) - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody a high-ranking official from the Ordnance Factory in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, following a midnight operation linked to a corruption scandal, sources reported on Thursday.
The CBI conducted a surprise raid at the Gray Iron Foundry (GIF) of the Jabalpur-based Ordnance Factory late on Wednesday night. After a two-hour search and a brief interrogation, the agency apprehended Deepak Lamba, the Deputy General Manager of the Ordnance Factory.
Lamba was subsequently transported to Delhi for an in-depth interrogation, according to sources.
Reports indicate that the raid was associated with alleged corruption and financial misconduct involving Lamba during his previous assignment in Maharashtra.
It’s noteworthy that the GIF operates under the Ordnance Factory Board of the Ministry of Defence, specializing in the production of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including steel castings and components for military hardware.
Prior to his transfer to Jabalpur, Lamba was stationed at the Nagpur-based Ordnance Factory. Allegations suggest that during his time at the Ambazari unit in Nagpur, he reportedly favored a private company for personal gain.
The situation came to light when DKT Gupta, the Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer of Yantra India Limited (YIL), lodged a formal complaint against Lamba with the CBI.
An FIR was registered on August 25 against Lamba and a private enterprise based in Nagpur, Automation Engineering and Industrial Services. This led to the raid at the Jabalpur Ordnance Factory.
Initial investigations revealed that Lamba had established a proprietorship firm, allegedly operated by one Mohit Tholia, who is believed to be a relative of Lamba.
The CBI also confiscated documents related to suspicious financial transactions, which are currently under scrutiny. Lamba’s family members, including his wife and sister, are being investigated as the probe has revealed a series of dubious financial activities.
Moreover, it is alleged that Lamba manipulated tender conditions to benefit a specific private firm. It is noteworthy that the CBI has previously taken similar action against another official from the Ordnance Factory in Jabalpur.
The CBI's late-night operation has caused widespread concern at the Jabalpur Ordnance Factory.
