Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Raipur, March 24 (NationPress) Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, is set to directly deposit around Rs 500 crore into the bank accounts of approximately 500,000 landless agricultural labor families under the Deendayal Upadhyay Landless Agricultural Labourer Welfare Scheme on Wednesday.
This transfer, taking place from Balodabazar, signifies a significant milestone in the state's dedication to aiding the most disadvantaged sections of rural communities. The government offers an annual financial aid of Rs 10,000 directly credited to the accounts of qualifying families.
In its Sankalp Budget for 2026-27, the state has earmarked Rs 600 crore, ensuring that assistance reaches as many needy families as possible. For over 495,000 eligible families, the government has allocated a total of Rs 495.96 crore, which is distributed directly, eliminating intermediaries to ensure each beneficiary receives the full amount without any deductions.
This initiative does not only cater to agricultural laborers but also includes other landless families engaged in the rural economy, such as those collecting forest products, herdsmen, carpenters, blacksmiths, cobblers, barbers, and traditional service providers like washermen.
Moreover, it encompasses priests residing in Scheduled Areas and families from the Baiga Gunia and Manjhi communities. Specifically, 22,028 Baiga and Gunia families, who are vital custodians of the state's rich cultural heritage, are included in the scheme.
The annual assistance has been raised from the previous Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000, providing increased support for educational, healthcare, and daily living expenses.
Among the districts, Raipur has the highest number of beneficiaries at 53,338, followed by Bilaspur with 39,401 and Mahasamund with 37,011. Conversely, the lowest numbers are in Bijapur with 1,542, Koriya with 1,549, and Narayanpur with 1,805 families.
The e-KYC verification for all beneficiaries has been finalized, ensuring full transparency and prompt fund transfers.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has emphasized that the scheme's aim extends beyond just financial assistance; it strives to uplift the income of landless families, empower them towards economic self-sufficiency, and integrate them into the social fabric.
