Raipur, March 9 (NationPress) Two women tragically lost their lives and 35 others sustained injuries when a pick-up truck, transporting them to a marriage celebration known as "Chouthiya", unexpectedly lost control and overturned near Palani Pat in the Kotwali police station area of Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham district (formerly Kawardha), according to police reports.
The scene turned chaotic as the two women, identified as Urvashi Sahu and Mukhin Sahu, succumbed to their injuries at the government hospital.
While police have not confirmed their ages, sources indicate that Urvashi was only about 14 years old.
An eight-year-old girl is currently in critical condition and receiving medical attention.
Out of the 35 injured, five are reported to be in critical condition.
All injured individuals were rushed to the hospital for urgent care, with the most severe cases being referred to Raipur for additional treatment.
According to police accounts, the pick-up truck belonged to a local Sahu family and was transporting family members to a post-wedding event in Sahaspur-Lohara.
Reports state that there were approximately 100 individuals in two pick-up trucks, with one truck carrying 40 women overturning in a field that was about 10 feet below the main road.
The family hailed from Singhanpuri village.
The critically injured women were taken to the district hospital in Kawardha.
Local residents promptly notified the police. An ambulance and rescue team arrived on the scene, transporting the injured to the hospital. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling at a high speed.
Upon learning of the incident, Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma instructed the district administration to initiate relief efforts immediately. Many seriously injured individuals were also admitted to private hospitals for treatment.
The administration has been directed to ensure that no injured person faces any difficulties. Following the Deputy Chief Minister's orders, all available government and private ambulances were deployed.
The families of the deceased are devastated.
Bhavna Bohra, a legislator from the Pandaria Assembly constituency, visited the hospital and urged doctors and officials to provide all possible assistance to the injured.
She later expressed her condolences on social media for the deceased, assuring that the health department was delivering the best possible care and facilities for the injured.
In her message, she stated, "Today, I received the heartbreaking news that individuals in the pickup vehicle Mazda were injured when it overturned near Sarodha Dam close to Palani Pat in Kawardha. I met with the injured victims and their families, inquired about their health, and directed the health department to ensure proper treatment and adequate facilities. I wish for a swift recovery for all those affected by this tragic incident."
