Chandigarh, Sep 16 (NationPress) Following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's extensive visit to the flood-affected regions of Punjab, BJP's national general secretary Tarun Chugh expressed his discontent on Tuesday, urging Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, to cease his 'papu' behavior in Punjab.
Chugh took strong exception to Gandhi's confrontation with the Punjab Police while attempting to navigate through a flood-impacted area near the Indo-Pak border, emphasizing that Rahul should have acted more responsibly in such dire circumstances.
“Amidst the suffering of countless individuals due to the floods, Rahul Gandhi's role should have been to announce a relief package, but instead, he was merely seeking the limelight,” Chugh stated, asserting that Gandhi has embarrassed the people of Punjab with his visit.
The BJP leader further criticized Gandhi for his frequent disregard for security protocols, recalling previous instances where he has undertaken private travels without notifying central security agencies.
Chugh commended the Punjab Police for maintaining their stance against Gandhi's pressure, stating that it is crucial for the Leader of the Opposition, as a holder of a Constitutional office, to respect law enforcement's directives. He accused Rahul of only being in Punjab for a photo opportunity, shedding 'crocodile tears' for those affected.
Additionally, BJP leader Pritpal Singh Baliawal called out Congress-governed Karnataka for allocating Rs 5 crore to its government in Himachal Pradesh for flood relief while neglecting Punjab.
Targeting Gandhi, Baliawal remarked on X, “For photo-ops, it’s Punjab; for financial aid, it’s Himachal Pradesh.” He noted that none of the eight state governments under Congress and its allies offered any assistance to Punjab.
“Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring was previously advised to inquire what Rahul has brought along. Now they should clarify who is truly anti-Punjab: those providing relief or those seeking photo opportunities?”
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has declared Rs 5 crore aid for the flood victims in Himachal Pradesh, showcasing solidarity.
