Navi Mumbai, Oct 29 (NationPress) The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has officially taken on the role of the designated security agency at the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) as of Wednesday.
The transition will occur gradually over several months, with an initial deployment of 900 security personnel for the first phase.
This induction makes Navi Mumbai Airport the 71st airport to come under the protective umbrella of the CISF's specialized Aviation Security Group (ASG).
“The CISF is set to deliver comprehensive security coverage for the entire airport and its related facilities. Initially, a strength of 900 personnel has been assigned out of a sanctioned total of 1,840, with plans for further increases as the airport expands its passenger and cargo operations,” stated the leading security agency in a press release.
All security measures will adhere to the most current Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) guidelines, encompassing both core and non-core aspects of airport security.
The formal induction ceremony took place at Navi Mumbai International Airport, attended by Praveer Ranjan, CISF Director General, as the Chief Guest, along with Binita Thakur, ADG (Airport Sector).
During the ceremony, Capt. B.V.J.K. Sharma, CEO of NMIA, symbolically handed over the keys of the airport to Sunit Sharma, Sr. Commandant & Chief Aerodrome Security Officer (CASO), NMIA.
Director General Praveer Ranjan emphasized, “The CISF is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of aviation security at NMIA, aligning with global benchmarks. Our personnel are trained, equipped, and ready to ensure a secure, efficient, and passenger-friendly atmosphere from day one.”

The CISF personnel will oversee access control, pre-embarkation security checks, perimeter and airside security, cargo security, and specialized units such as Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), and K9 Units.
They will collaborate closely with local police and other agencies, conducting regular contingency drills to ensure optimal preparedness.
