Gurugram, April 23 (NationPress) - Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini toured the site of Haryana’s inaugural ‘Complete Streets’ project located in Udyog Vihar Sector-18, Gurugram on Wednesday.
He stated that the 'Complete Streets' initiative exemplifies the state government's dedication to ensuring that every individual, including children, the elderly, women, and individuals with disabilities, has the right to walk safely and with dignity.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the government’s priorities extend beyond mere infrastructure development, aiming instead for overall human well-being. “Walking, cycling, or using public transport in Gurugram will transition from a basic necessity to a delightful experience,” he noted. He also underscored that this initiative illustrates the transformative power of cooperation among government bodies, the private sector, and civil society. The 'Complete Streets' model, he asserted, will serve as a benchmark not just for Haryana but for the whole nation.
This project is situated along Sanath Road and Gali No. 7 in Udyog Vihar, covering a length of 2.4 kilometres with a width of 30 metres. This thoroughfare links Old Delhi Road to the Airtel office on NH 48. The overall cost of the project was around Rs 23 crore, funded collaboratively by GMDA, MCG, DHBVN, and the Raahgiri Foundation. Private entities like Nagarro, Maruti Suzuki, and Safexpress also played a vital role, setting an impressive standard for public-private collaborations.
Noteworthy aspects of the project encompass spacious and shaded walkways for pedestrians, a secure lane for cyclists, bioswales designed for rainwater harvesting, and the preservation of 700 mature trees. Additionally, over 20,000 flowering plants have been introduced. To guarantee safety, four trained street marshals are stationed 24/7. This model is poised to inspire cities throughout Haryana and across India.
Cabinet Minister Rao Narbir Singh, accompanying the Chief Minister, stressed the need to eliminate polythene usage and encouraged residents to utilize reusable bags while shopping. He pointed out that tree plantation is a significant and beneficial action, as it not only purifies the environment but also lays the groundwork for a healthier future for upcoming generations.
He proposed that instead of traditional gifts on birthdays, weddings, or other significant events, people should consider planting a tree and encouraging others to do the same as a meaningful and impactful gesture.
Chief Executive Officer of GMDA, Shyamal Misra, remarked that Sanath Road now stands as a prominent example of how well-planned and sustainably developed road infrastructure can transform a basic transit route into a vibrant area.
“This Road serves as a Model Street for Gurugram, and the Authority, in collaboration with various stakeholders in both government and private sectors, aims to replicate similar best practices to further develop environmentally friendly and pedestrian-centric pathways, enhancing the city’s infrastructure for the benefit of the public,” he stated.
Present at the event were Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma, GMDA CEO Shyamal Mishra, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar, Police Commissioner Vikas Arora, Municipal Corporation Gurugram Commissioner Ashok Garg, BJP District President Sarvpriya Tyagi, and representatives from the participating companies, among others.
