Bhopal, May 30 (NationPress) V.D. Sharma, the President of Madhya Pradesh BJP, stated on Friday that the Congress has failed to implement any measures for women's empowerment, a responsibility now taken on by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at both the national and state levels.

Sharma also condemned the Congress for questioning the upcoming 'Mahila Sashaktikaran Maha Sammelan', which will be addressed by Prime Minister Modi at Bhopal's Jamboree Maidan on Saturday.

He argued that the initiatives taken by the state government to empower women reflect the Congress' negative attitude.

Sharma claimed that despite being in power for numerous years at both the national and state levels, the Congress has done nothing substantial for women's empowerment.

"Now that the BJP government, under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, is actively working towards empowering women in the nation, Congress leaders are visibly uncomfortable. Their usual pattern is to resist progress," stated BJP leader Sharma.

These comments were made in response to Congress' allegations that the BJP is trying to gain political advantage from 'Operation Sindoor', a military initiative against terrorism by the Indian Armed Forces.

In addressing Congress' claims against the BJP, Sharma said, "Congress should take a lesson from its own leader Shashi Tharoor, who is currently heading an all-party delegation visiting foreign nations to highlight Pakistan's issues."

Sharma, a two-time MP from Khajuraho, criticized the Congress for opposing significant initiatives by PM Modi, such as the 'triple talaq' and 'women reservation' Bills presented in Parliament.

Earlier on Friday, in a coordinated political attack on the BJP, Congress leaders held a press conference and issued open letters to PM Modi, demanding the dismissal of Minister Vijay Shah, whose remarks regarding Colonel Sofiya Qureshi were labeled as "gutter" and "crass" by the courts.

In his letter to PM Modi, State Congress President Jitu Patwari referenced the National Crime Records Bureau, highlighting that Madhya Pradesh has recorded the highest number of crimes against women in recent years.

Patwari pointed out that the major cities of Bhopal, Indore, and Gwalior have been categorized as red zones for crimes against women.

He further stated that PM Modi will speak at a rally honoring Ahilyabai Holkar, and residents of Madhya Pradesh will be eager to hear his stance on Minister Vijay Shah at Bhopal's Jamboree Maidan.

"While Congress acknowledges that empowering women and honoring them is a commendable step, this event funded by public money should not be exploited for political gain," Patwari stated, noting that the Madhya Pradesh government's financial liabilities have already surpassed Rs 4.21 lakh crore.

Point of View

The ongoing discourse surrounding women's empowerment highlights a significant political divide. While the BJP positions itself as a champion for women's rights under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, Congress's historical inaction raises questions about their commitment. The focus on empowerment must transcend political rivalry and genuinely address the pressing issues faced by women in society.
