Hyderabad, Dec 18 (NationPress) A sense of tension enveloped the Congress party headquarters at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday as party leaders attempted to march towards the BJP office in protest of the National Herald Case. All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, along with Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, and other leaders, sat in front of Gandhi Bhavan after police intervened to halt their march.
A significant police presence was established to avert any potential unrest in the city center. Law enforcement officers closed the gates of Gandhi Bhavan to prevent Congress leaders from exiting the premises.
Chanting slogans against the central government, the protesters caused a substantial traffic jam on a busy road as they sat in front of the Congress office. Police were forced to step in to detain the demonstrators and restore traffic flow.
Congress leaders accused the BJP of weaponizing investigative agencies after a Delhi court declined to acknowledge the ED’s money laundering allegations against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.
The protest was organized in response to a directive from the AICC. Mahesh Kumar Goud insisted that their protest was peaceful, alleging that the BJP was abusing its power to target Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.
The TPCC chief asserted that the Delhi court's ruling is a significant blow to the fascist policies of the central government, urging the government to acknowledge its errors and apologize to the Gandhi family.
The ruling party in Telangana initiated protests across various locations in the state, accusing the BJP of misusing central agencies to undermine opposition leaders and damage the reputation of Congress leadership.
With party flags in hand and chants against the BJP-led government, Congress leaders and supporters rallied in regions such as Nalgonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, and elsewhere in the state.
A considerable number of police personnel were deployed to prevent any disturbances.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated near the office of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay in Karimnagar as Congress leaders and workers attempted to lay siege to it as part of their protest. Police intervened to halt the protesters near the BJP leader’s office, resulting in a charged atmosphere.
The protesters displayed signs with messages such as ‘Victory to National Herald’ and ‘Victory to Young India’.
