Mumbai, Dec 22 (NationPress) In the recent elections for 288 municipal councils and nagar panchayats throughout the state, the Congress party successfully clinched 41 municipal president positions and 1,006 councillors.
The state party leader, Harshwardhan Sapkal, stated on Monday that the party stood firm on its ideology even amidst severe challenges.
“With no financial support and relying entirely on a strong commitment to democratic principles, our party faced the ruling coalition's monetary influence. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Congress volunteers, voters delivered their trust. These outcomes reaffirm that trust surpasses money and that ideas hold more significance than mere power,” he remarked.
Sapkal emphasized that elections bring both triumphs and setbacks, and the Congress has endured numerous challenges.
“Rather than being discouraged by losses, our workers are energized and determined to continue fighting with renewed vigor. The faith of our workers is vital for our organization, and it was evidently showcased in this election,” he added.
In the Nagpur division, Congress secured 14 municipal presidents and 340 councillors; in the Amravati division, 9 municipal presidents and 236 councillors; in Marathwada, 5 municipal presidents and 156 councillors; in western Maharashtra, 3 municipal presidents and 47 councillors; in northern Maharashtra, 2 municipal presidents and 47 councillors; and in the Konkan division, 1 municipal president and 26 councillors.
Additionally, 7 municipal presidents and 154 councillors from Congress-supported local coalitions were also elected.
Meanwhile, Sapkal contended that these results serve as a strong rebuttal to those who assert that Congress is nonviable.
“The electorate has dismissed the idea that social harmony can be disrupted in the name of caste and religion for political purposes, or that elections can be won solely through monetary influence, reaffirming that Congress's ideology is essential for national integrity,” he noted.
He pointed out that while the BJP and the party led by Eknath Shinde may have achieved victories through excessive financial means and administrative support, Congress continues to resonate within the populace.
“This is a contest of ideas, and Congress has not deviated from its core beliefs. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to every candidate and every worker who supported us during this journey, and I sincerely thank the people of Maharashtra for their faith in the Congress party,” he expressed.
He also mentioned that this victory in the municipal elections will rejuvenate the party ahead of the upcoming municipal corporation and zilla parishad elections.
Sapkal concluded by declaring that Congress's struggle to rescue Maharashtra from the deeply corrupt BJP-led MahaYuti will persist relentlessly.
