Jaipur, Dec 2 (NationPress) - In a deeply disturbing incident that unfolded in the Mokhampura region near Jaipur, a couple was reportedly bound and set ablaze using petrol. The man, identified as 25-year-old Kailash Gurjar, sadly succumbed to his severe burns.
His partner, Soni Gurjar, is currently in critical condition, suffering from approximately 45 percent burns.
According to Mokhampura SHO Suresh Kumar Gurjar, Kailash, a resident of Barolav village, who sustained 60 percent burns, passed away during medical treatment at SMS Hospital.
The horrific event is reported to have taken place three days ago while the couple was on a scaffold set up on a farm.
Initial investigations indicated that the crime was allegedly perpetrated by the woman’s relatives.
Law enforcement has apprehended her uncle-in-law, Birdichand Gurjar (57), and brother-in-law, Ganesh Gurjar (41), in connection with this heinous act.
Based on testimonies from the injured woman and the deceased prior to his death, Soni had visited Kailash around 2 a.m. on Friday.
The accused purportedly followed her, restrained the couple to the scaffold, and ignited them with petrol. Their relationship reportedly faced familial opposition; Kailash was married, while Soni is a widow whose husband passed away six years ago.
Soni has two children, a 10-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter, with the son having been married off at a young age.
Investigators noted that tensions escalated between the families following a love marriage last year involving Soni's brother-in-law's son and Kailash's brother's daughter, resulting in bitterness and a breakdown in communication.
Authorities have since arrested Soni’s brother-in-law and father-in-law in connection with the case.
DSP Rashi Dogra confirmed the arrests, stating that further evidence and witness testimonies are being scrutinized.
The police have flagged this case as a potential instance of honour-based violence.
Soni remains under intensive medical supervision, with hospital officials describing her condition as “extremely critical.”
