Jaipur, Dec 3 (NationPress) A woman, who was reportedly set ablaze alongside her partner by her own family in the Dudu region of Jaipur, has tragically passed away due to her injuries.
She was receiving treatment at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, where her boyfriend lost his life on Monday night.
The horrifying incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on November 28, when family members allegedly doused the couple with petrol and ignited them.
The victims have been identified as Kailash Gurjar (25) and Soni (30), who were residents of Barolav village in the Mokhampura area, and were reportedly together on a farm platform when they were attacked.
According to police reports, Soni's uncle-in-law, Birdi Chand, and brother-in-law, Ganesh Gurjar, allegedly confronted the couple, poured petrol on them, and set them on fire.
Both sustained severe burns, with Kailash suffering from 70% burns and Soni from 90%. They were admitted to the burn ICU at SMS Hospital.
Kailash succumbed to his injuries late Monday night, while Soni passed away around 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
The in-charge of Mokhampura Police Station, Suresh Kumar Gurjar, confirmed that the police initially registered a case of attempted murder, which was later upgraded to murder after the victims' deaths.
Within 12 hours post-attack, a police team led by Dudu ASP Shivlal Bairwa and DSP Deepak Khandelwal arrested both accused - Birdi Chand and Ganesh Gurjar.
The victim's family claims that more individuals were involved and has called for further arrests.
Soni, in her statement to the police prior to her death, mentioned that she had gone to meet Kailash around 2 a.m. on Friday. The accused allegedly followed her, bound the couple to a scaffold, and ignited them with petrol. Both were reportedly in a relationship amidst family tensions; Kailash was married, while Soni was a widow with two children, a 10-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter. Shockingly, her son was also married off as a child.
Investigators revealed that tensions escalated between the families after a love marriage last year between Soni's brother-in-law's son and Kailash's brother's daughter, leading to a complete breakdown in communication.
Following Kailash's death, villagers protested by blocking the Mokhampura–Bichoon road on Tuesday, demanding prompt action and the arrest of all suspects. Authorities engaged with the protesters and assured them of further action.
