Bhopal, Jan 30 (NationPress) A jawan from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) reportedly shot his wife dead before taking his own life in a rented apartment located in Misrod area of Bhopal, as reported by the police on Thursday.
The tragic event unfolded during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday at Green Park colony.
The deceased jawan has been named as Ravikant Verma. Authorities revealed that he contacted the police control room around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, confessing to the shooting of his wife, Renu Verma.
Upon receiving the alert, a police team from Misrod hurried to the scene where they discovered the couple in a pool of blood.
The couple had two children—a six-year-old son and a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
Upon arrival, the officers found the children crying in one room, while the bloodied bodies of 35-year-old Ravikant Verma and 32-year-old Renu Verma were in another.
A service revolver was located near the bodies.
Initial investigations by the police indicate that the CRPF jawan shot his wife first before turning the gun on himself. Both bodies have been referred for post-mortem examination at AIIMS Bhopal.
Residents who rushed to the scene after hearing the gunfire reported that the couple often quarreled loudly. However, the exact cause of this tragic incident remains unknown.
The CRPF camp is situated in the Bangrasiya area, while Ravikant Verma resided with his family in a rented accommodation in Green Park colony, a nearby residential locality.
“We have received information regarding a CRPF jawan who killed his wife and subsequently shot himself with his service revolver. A police inquiry is currently in progress,” stated Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra to IANS.
Authorities mentioned that the motive behind the incident is still being determined, and relatives and neighbors of the couple are being questioned.
The police will seek assistance from the CRPF camp located in the Bangrasiya area.
