Kheda (Gujarat), May 20 (NationPress) The historic Dakor Railway Station in Gujarat’s Kheda district has undergone a remarkable transformation under the Central government’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, garnering praise from both locals and pilgrims.
Regarded as the sacred home of Lord Ranchhodrai, Dakor is a significant pilgrimage destination, affectionately known as Yatra Dham Dakor, and now, its railway station embodies this spiritual legacy in both architecture and facilities.
Revamped with a focus on heritage, accessibility, and modernisation, the station now reflects the design of the iconic Ranchhodrai Temple, merging faith with practicality. It stands as a testament to reverence and advancement, where history coexists with cutting-edge amenities.
The transformation has not only facilitated travel for pilgrims and daily commuters but has also enriched the aesthetic and cultural experience for all who transit through.
Local residents and visitors have praised the renovations.
In an interview with IANS, Rakesh Tamboli, a resident of Dakor, remarked: "There’s a significant change now. The station is unrecognizable compared to its previous state. We now enjoy all essential facilities, and it truly feels like a world-class destination. It’s a commendable initiative by the government."
Mayur Purohit, another local, expressed his appreciation, stating: "First of all, I want to thank Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi for this remarkable project. The government has invested over Rs 60 lakhs in upgrading this station. We now have cold drinking water, resting areas, a play zone for children, and stunning murals of Lord Krishna. It’s more than just a station - it has become a cultural landmark."
Station Master Ashok Kumar Sinha highlighted the operational enhancements. "Previously, Dakor was a single-line station in the Anand-Gujarat region. Since November 23, 2024, it has transitioned to a double-line station, improving traffic management and connectivity. Previously, there was only one platform—now we have two, equipped with coach indicators and clean waiting rooms. The walls are decorated with Krishna-themed artwork, providing ideal photo opportunities for visitors. Travellers are genuinely delighted with the transformation.”
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, initiated by the PM Modi-led government, is a visionary mission aimed at modernising over 1,300 railway stations across India. More than just beautification, the scheme seeks to enhance passenger amenities, upgrade infrastructure, and improve accessibility, particularly for the differently-abled. The initiative also focuses on integrating local culture, urban planning, and seamless transport connectivity.
On May 22, Prime Minister Modi will virtually inaugurate five newly redeveloped railway stations under the Vadodara division—Dakor, Karamsad, Derol, Kosamba, and Utran, along with others across India. Each station has been tailored to reflect regional needs and culture, with Dakor’s spiritual importance playing a central role in its design.
