Bhopal, April 26 (NationPress) A profoundly disturbing event has emerged from Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh, where a Dalit groom's wedding procession was subjected to caste-based aggression.

As per police reports, the groom, Jitendra Ahirwar, was riding a mare – a customary practice in Indian weddings – when his procession faced hostility from members of the upper-caste community in Mokhra village, part of the Badagaon police station area.

Members of the upper-caste community were reportedly offended by the groom's act of wearing shoes and riding the mare through their neighborhood, resulting in a violent confrontation that left four individuals injured, according to police.

A video capturing the incident went viral on social media on Friday evening, shortly after the occurrence.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rahul Katre confirmed to IANS, "The groom Jitendra filed a complaint stating that he was subjected to caste-based humiliation, and all accused individuals have been apprehended promptly after the video circulated and the police received notification."

"An elderly woman, Bhankunwar, allegedly incited the violence by throwing stones at the groom. Her sons, Drigpal and Suryapal, are also accused of using abusive language and caste-related slurs against the groom and his family," the officer stated.

A woman is seen in the viral video holding a boulder aimed at the groom.

Upon receiving the complaint, police swiftly registered an FIR (First Information Report) against the suspects, according to the officer, "under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS), including 126(1), 115(3), 351(2), 296, and additional provisions along with the Atrocity Act."

The investigation is ongoing, and the accused will be presented in court soon, the officer mentioned, adding, "Additional sections of BNS may be applied to the accused upon conclusion of the investigation."

The complainant, Jitendra Ahirwar, shared his distressing experience with authorities, stating it was his wedding day, and the procession was headed towards Sagar.

As part of tradition, Jitendra, along with family and relatives, was conducting a procession known as 'Rachh' (Vinayaki) in the village.

"As we passed through a locality, stones were hurled at us when I resisted their demand to dismount the mare and walk, questioning how I dared to ride a mare or wear shoes while passing their homes. This attack not only tainted the celebratory event but also subjected the groom and his relatives to public disgrace," Ahirwar recounted to the police in his complaint.
