New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to inaugurate its Heritage Week festivities on Monday at the iconic Mehrauli Archaeological Park. This initiative aims to enhance the understanding of Delhi's cultural and architectural legacy among the public, particularly targeting the youth, as stated by an official on Sunday.

This week-long event, scheduled from April 13 to 18, will feature a variety of activities designed to engage both students and the general public, fostering a spirit of heritage appreciation and creative expression, according to an official release.

For the first time, the DDA has collaborated with MyGov, the Citizen Engagement Platform of the Union government, to host an online Photography Competition. Participants from across the nation are encouraged to capture and share the beauty of the Mehrauli Archaeological Park's heritage sites and submit their entries on the MyGov portal.

Additionally, the DDA has teamed up with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to present an exhibition that documents the conservation initiatives undertaken in the Mehrauli area.

To engage students with Delhi's rich heritage, a variety of student-focused activities are set to take place on April 15 and 16, including Heritage Walks, a Dialogue Competition, a Story Writing Competition, and Sketching and Drawing Competitions, as outlined in the statement.

In an effort to maximize school children’s involvement, the DDA has reached out to the Delhi government's Directorate of Education, urging schools to motivate students to participate in these events.

A Public Heritage Walk will be conducted on April 17, allowing citizens to immerse themselves in the historical tapestry of the park and gain insights into Delhi's architectural heritage.

The celebrations will culminate on April 18, coinciding with the International Day for Monuments and Sites. This concluding day will feature a Prize Distribution Ceremony, an exhibition of selected works, and an enchanting Qawwali Night, providing a cultural highlight to the week-long event.

Through Heritage Week, the DDA aspires to cultivate a stronger bond between citizens and the city's historical landmarks, while inspiring younger generations to value and safeguard Delhi's distinctive heritage.

The recently restored heritage structures at Mehrauli Archaeological Park were unveiled in October 2023 as part of the Union government's mission to preserve Delhi's rich heritage and ancient grandeur. The park features beautifully restored structures, including Balban's Tomb, and has enhanced landscaping with lush greenery surrounding these historic sites.

Special vantage points have been established to offer breathtaking views of the Qutub Minar from within the park.
