Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 21 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, inaugurated the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) Palaash Mahotsav on Saturday, emphasizing the significance of green public spaces and the role of citizen engagement in protecting our environment.
During a conversation with the media, the L-G announced that the originally scheduled two-day festival has been extended to three days due to overwhelming public interest.
“We have decided to extend the Palaash Mahotsav to three days... The park offers walking and cycling paths aimed at encouraging the citizens of Delhi to stay active, in support of the Prime Minister’s Fit India initiative. More parks developed by the DDA will be made available to the public soon,” he stated.
The Palaash Mahotsav, organized by the DDA, marks the transition from winter to spring, a season that embodies renewal, vibrancy, and community spirit. This festival showcases the DDA’s ongoing commitment to sustainable urban development and enhancing access to public green areas throughout the national capital.
Festival-goers are treated to stunning floral designs, seasonal plant exhibitions, and interactive green displays featuring both ornamental and indigenous species.
Alongside the horticultural showcases, there are artisan stalls, food courts, cultural events, workshops, and activities that foster inclusivity and engagement for families, students, and visitors of all ages.
Also present at the inaugural event were Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Harsh Malhotra and DDA Vice Chairman N. Saravana Kumar.
Earlier, on February 14, the Lieutenant Governor had inaugurated the 'DDA Green Expo 2026' in conjunction with Palaash Mahotsav 2026 at Baansera on the banks of the Yamuna.
He urged the public to take accountability for the environment, stating, “Who would have thought, just three years ago, that this degraded and polluted area would serve as a venue for a ‘Green Expo’ and become a hub for planning a sustainable future for Delhi?”
In a social media update, Saxena referred to Baansera as “a remarkable example of land restoration and greening,” expressing hope that the Expo would present viable solutions to Delhi’s environmental issues.
The DDA reported that Day 1 of the Green Expo involved the signing of MoUs, a logo unveiling, keynote speeches, and a guided tour of the exhibition, setting a positive tone for Delhi’s vision toward a climate-resilient and sustainable future.
In addition to Baansera at Birsa Munda Chowk, the Palaash Festival was also celebrated at Ashoka Garden in Ashok Vihar, Lala Hardayal Park in Jasola, and Smriti Van in Narela, each themed around nature, sustainability, and community.
The venues showcased thematic floral arrangements, curated gardens, landscape designs, and public activity zones, illustrating a cohesive narrative of Delhi’s connection with nature.
