DDA Kicks Off Heritage Week to Celebrate Delhi's Rich Cultural Legacy

New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), in partnership with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), is set to unveil a Heritage Week initiative starting today, aimed at celebrating the capital’s rich heritage.
This program, running from Monday to Saturday (April 13 to 18), is designed to engage the community, particularly the youth, with Delhi’s vibrant art and culture. It will feature an exhibition/documentation highlighting conservation efforts in the Mehrauli region, according to an official statement.
DDA Vice Chairman N. Saravana Kumar expressed, “The heritage of Delhi is a living legacy that should be at the heart of the city’s future. Through Heritage Week, DDA aims to enhance public engagement, especially among the youth, with these crucial historical sites.”
He further stated, “We are committed to ensuring that heritage conservation, ecological restoration, and the creation of public spaces work hand-in-hand as essential components of Delhi’s sustainable urban development.”
The objective of Heritage Week is to foster public appreciation and pride in Delhi’s heritage assets, promoting community involvement and youth participation while showcasing ongoing efforts in heritage conservation and urban ecology, the statement added.
The week-long initiative includes a variety of activities such as student engagement programs, a photography competition, dialogues for students, sketching and drawing contests, story-writing opportunities, exhibitions, and a cultural night event.
Preceding the main events, the DDA, in collaboration with the School of Heritage Research and Management (SHRM) at B.R. Ambedkar University, held heritage walks on April 3, 4, and 5 under the theme “Sufis, Sultans and Settlers – listening to the tales they whisper to us.” These walks attracted enthusiastic participation from students, families, and heritage enthusiasts, further igniting interest in reconnecting with Delhi’s profound history.
